Activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju has stirred fresh questions about the arrest of outspoken social media figure Martins Otse, known online as VeryDarkMan (VDM), revealing that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has yet to explain the reason for his detention.
Adeyanju shared the update late Monday on his official Facebook page, shortly after visiting VDM at the EFCC facility.
According to the lawyer, despite pressing for answers, the Commission admitted there was no petition filed against the controversial influencer contrary to widespread claims earlier that day.

He wrote, “Got into the country this evening and went straight to VDM at EFCC. Just left him. We still cannot understand why he was arrested. EFCC said there’s no petition against him after our repeated demand.”
This comes after BBC Pidgin reported that VDM’s arrest followed multiple petitions from Nigerians, citing EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale as the source. But in a surprising twist, the Commission later denied the report, deepening the mystery around the arrest and throwing up more questions than answers.
