A former member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr. Olusola Sokunle, declared on Thursday that any political coalition formed by opposition parties will be unsuccessful in its bid to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, should the incumbent decide to seek re-election.

Sokunle, who represented Oshodi-Isolo Constituency I from 2015 to 2023, expressed strong confidence in President Tinubu’s prospects, stating in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that Tinubu would face no significant challenge.

His remarks were a direct response to the recent announcement of plans by elements within opposition parties, including the PDP and Labour Party, to form a coalition to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“We have heard and read about the formation of a coalition… and I laugh because I know, for sure, that Tinubu will win easily,” Sokunle stated.

He argued that President Tinubu’s performance since assuming office in 2023 has garnered significant support from Nigerians.

Dismissing the coalition’s potential impact, the APC chieftain asserted, “I make bold to say that no gang-up can work against the President… the coalition will fail as the President understands the game more than those ganging up. He is very experienced; he is a great strategist. The people in the so-called coalition should not waste their time as their efforts will end in vain.”

Sokunle further opined that President Tinubu is currently preoccupied with governance and “resetting the country,” suggesting he would address political challenges like the coalition “at the right time.”

He drew parallels with previous attempts by coalitions to unseat incumbent governments, noting their general lack of success and predicting a similar failure for the current initiative.

He controversially added, “No one is saying they should not gather, but their gathering is not of God; therefore, it is bound to fail.”

The former lawmaker commended President Tinubu for taking “bold steps” aimed at improving the economy, security, and citizen welfare.

He concluded by urging Nigerians to continue supporting the President’s efforts to rebuild the nation and foster sustainable development.
