No Ethno-Religious Crisis in Kaduna for Over Two Years — Gov Sani

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has highlighted the state’s success in maintaining peace, stating that Kaduna has not experienced any ethno-religious crises in the past two and a half years.

He made the remarks on Tuesday, November 11, during a lecture hosted by the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA) in Lagos.

Sani’s statement comes shortly after US President Donald Trump designated Nigeria as a “country of particular concern” over alleged persecution of Christians and threatened military intervention against groups responsible for attacks on religious communities. Kaduna has historically been a hotspot for banditry and related violence in north-western Nigeria.

According to the governor, the state’s stability is the result of inclusive governance and active collaboration with traditional leaders.

He also pointed to the creation of an Interfaith Council as a key tool in sustaining dialogue and unity across religious and ethnic groups.

“Meeting quarterly, the council provides a structured platform for resolving grievances, fostering trust, and building lasting relationships among the state’s diverse communities,” Sani said.

He added, “This deliberate and inclusive approach has significantly strengthened safety and security in Kaduna State, ensuring that conflicts are addressed through dialogue rather than violence.

“Kaduna has not experienced any ethno-religious crisis in the last two and a half years.”

Sani noted that the council’s efforts reflect his administration’s commitment to social cohesion, peaceful coexistence, and the overall development of the state.

He also welcomed international recognition of Kaduna’s progress, citing the UK government’s recent decision to lift travel restrictions and adjust the state’s advisory status from red to amber, underscoring the improvements in security and governance.
