‘No Hiding Place for Criminals’: Lagos Taskforce Arrests 277 in Sweeping Midnight Crackdown

The Lagos State Taskforce has arrested 277 individuals in a sweeping week-long operation targeting notorious criminal enclaves across the metropolis.

According to a statement issued Sunday by the agency’s spokesperson, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, the crackdown followed intelligence reports and persistent complaints from residents about rising criminal activity in several areas.

The enforcement operation, led by Taskforce Chairman CSP Adetayo Akerele, began each day around 1:30 a.m. and covered both Island and Mainland locations, including Victoria Island, Chevron axis, Lekki Roundabouts, Osborne Road, Obalende, Ikoyi, Oniru Beach, Falomo Bridge, and the vicinity of the Law School and Eko Hotel. Others include railway tracks in Agege, Isale Oja in Ketu, and the AP Roundabout.

“These individuals have been causing disruptions and posing a threat to the safety of responsible citizens,” Akerele said. “With this exercise, we haven’t just restored peace; we’ve made it clear that Lagos will not be a haven for lawlessness.”

The arrested suspects have all been prosecuted in accordance with Lagos State laws, the Taskforce confirmed.

Akerele emphasized that the operation is part of a broader push to reclaim public spaces from miscreants and criminal gangs while reinforcing law and order.

He warned would-be troublemakers to desist from unlawful activities, stating: “Anyone intending to destabilize the safety and peace of our neighborhoods must stop now or be ready to face the consequences.”

“We remain resolute in our mission to deliver a safer, cleaner Lagos,” he concluded.
