‘No Matter What I Do, They’ll Insult Me,’ — Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has said that he draws important lessons in governance from public criticism, including from those who often insult him.

Speaking during a town hall meeting with political leaders in Benue State on Wednesday, the President acknowledged that while he faces constant criticism, he pays attention and learns from it.

“No matter what I do, they will insult me,” Tinubu said.

“But I read the papers, and I learn from their criticism — because I can’t see it all myself.”

Tinubu was in Benue as part of a visit to the state following recent violent attacks by armed herders that left at least 100 people dead.

Addressing Governor Hyacinth Alia, the President remarked, “Your political enemies don’t want you to succeed. Are you just finding that out?”

He urged leaders in Benue and across the country to set aside differences and collaborate for peace and development.

“We cannot do without one another,” Tinubu said. “Let us form a leadership committee immediately, one that will meet in Abuja to design a strategy for lasting peace.

“I am ready to invest in that peace.”

The President’s visit comes amid heightened insecurity in Benue and growing calls for urgent and lasting solutions to the persistent violence plaguing rural communities.
