No official date for school resumption yet, says Bayelsa

Bayelsa State Government says plans are on to ensure a safe return of pupils and students to school, but for now no official date has been fixed.Commissioner for Education, Gentle Emelah, made this known on Sunday against the backdrop of speculation making the rounds with regard to resumption of schools in the state.

He, however, confirmed the date fixed for the 2020 First School Leaving Certificate Examination, saying it would hold on October 14, 2020.He also added that the Basic Education Certificate Examination would follow soon on October 20, 2020.He called for calm and understanding and also appealed to Bayelsans concerning some challenges currently faced in some of the schools.He assured the people that they were going to be looked into as he was already carrying out an inspection tour to a certain first hand what is on ground and where the government needs to come in to assist.

Emelah further said teachers recruitment was yet to commence as the government was just coming on board and appealed for patience and understanding as that would be done at the right time.He appreciated all his well wishers who had sent in congratulatory messages on various platforms and called for cooperation and support from all and sundry to move the education sector in the state forward.
