The Anambra State Government has denied recent rumors that its ordering the arrest of women who aren’t wearing bras or pants.
In a statement posted on its X handle on Tuesday, the State government debunked the trending announcement, stating that the information was not issued by the State Government.
The statement read, “Anambra State government has not authorized the trending announcement on women who do not wear underwear.”
However, First News reported on Monday 17, that a local security group in the State had made a surprising announcement, pledging to take action against women spotted in public without bras or panties.
The statement, broadcasted through a public address system, spread rapidly after a video of it went viral on X, on February 16.

The security official in the video stated in Igbo that the controversial instruction came directly from Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
The official made it clear that women who were caught in public wearing only their underwear would be promptly taken into custody.
