Nollywood Actor Charles Olumo ‘Agbako’ Passes Away at 101

The Nigerian film industry and Yoruba cultural community are in deep mourning over the loss of veteran actor Pa Charles Olumo Sanyaolu, widely cherished as Agbako, who passed away at the remarkable age of 101.

Reports indicate that he died peacefully on Thursday morning, following a brief nap during which he had expressed feeling slightly fatigued.

Bolaji Amusan, known as Mr Latin and President of the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN), officially announced Agbako’s passing, adding that burial details would soon be shared by his family and association.

As the oldest actor within Nigeria’s film sector, Agbako is celebrated for his century-long life and his enduring legacy in the Yoruba film industry, where he holds a unique place in cultural memory.

Fellow Nollywood veteran Jide Kosoko confirmed the sad news, prompting an outpouring of grief and condolences from actors, filmmakers, and devoted fans who cherished his contributions to Yoruba cinema, where he left an indelible influence on generations who grew up watching his unforgettable performances.
