Northern CAN Mourns Uma Ukpai, Hails Him as Preacher Without Borders

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the North has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the revered evangelist and founder of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai.

In its condolence message, Northern CAN hailed him as “a preacher with no national barrier,” whose One Million Man Crusades brought revival, healing, and conversions across northern Nigeria and beyond.

The statement, signed by its chairman, Rev. Joseph John Hayab, highlighted that Uma Ukpai’s ministry touched countless lives and inspired unity among Christians, describing his passion for evangelism as unforgettable.

According to Hayab, “the late cleric visited Northern Nigeria several times for his famous One Million Man Crusades that recorded massive attendance, miracles, and numerous conversions to Christ.”

He added that “the blessings of his several One Million Man Crusades in northern Nigeria remain evident. Many lives were turned to Christ, miracles happened, and souls were healed.”

Recalling one of Ukpai’s visits, Hayab noted that the then Governor of Kaduna State, Ahmed Makarfi, personally received him, a gesture that mirrored the evangelist’s wide acceptance and moral influence across the country.

Hayab described the deceased as a vessel through whom God worked mightily, stating that both the North and Nigeria have lost a true servant of God whose faith and message of hope deeply impacted the nation.

He urged Christians “not to mourn as those without hope,” but to celebrate that Uma Ukpai “finished well and has gone to be with the Lord whom he served faithfully.”

Northern CAN extended heartfelt condolences to the Ukpai family, the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, and the broader Christian community, praying for God’s comfort and for new evangelists to carry on the mission he started.

Rev. Hayab concluded that the late preacher’s legacy will remain a powerful part of Nigeria’s evangelistic history.
