Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ondo State have intercepted four men allegedly transporting stolen telecommunications wires, electric cables, and transformer parts from Kano to Lagos.

The suspects—identified as Mogaji Ibrahim (40), Umaru Adamu (32), Abba Muhazu (19), and Adamu Idris (25)—were arrested at the old Ore Toll Gate along the Lagos expressway in Odigbo Local Government Area.

NSCDC Public Relations Officer for Ondo State, Mr. Daniel Aidamenbor, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Sunday.

He explained that the suspects, all of northern origin, were tracked and apprehended following credible intelligence on their activities.

“They were apprehended while transporting vandalised telecommunication wires, BEDC equipment such as transformer parts, high tension cables, copper and armoured cables, and other cut-to-size metal objects from Kano to Lagos,” Aidamenbor stated.

According to him, the intercepted items have been recovered and secured as evidence, while the suspects remain in custody as investigations are ongoing to identify their sponsors and other accomplices.

He further emphasized the command’s commitment to tackling acts of sabotage targeting national infrastructure.

“The command is focused on fighting economic saboteurs who are in the crime business of targeting critical national assets and infrastructures of government across the country,” he said.

Aidamenbor also noted that the NSCDC has ramped up intelligence-led surveillance across all 18 local government areas of Ondo State, warning criminal elements to steer clear of the region.

“The state commandant has warned all criminal elements in the state and those using the state as a thoroughfare to other states to stay clear of Ondo State, as operatives of the command are on high alert to flush out criminal elements from the state,” he said.
