The two-day strategic management seminar for sports officers and coordinators of the National School Sport Federation (NSSF) ended on Wednesday in Lagos.
At the opening ceremony of the seminar NSSF President Olabisi Joseph said there was a need to reposition school sports by imparting new ideas into those in charge of sports across the country, hence the essence of the seminar.
“We believe that sport is a veritable tool to keep our children from societal ills and for us at NSSF, we want to ensure that our students are taught the right things by those in charge of sports in our various schools across the country. That is the main reason we decided to organise this seminar because the world is changing and we must also change with it especially with what obtains across the globe in sports.
“This training will help our sports coordinators and SUBEB officers to be in tune with what obtains globally and to make them more efficient in their various states,” Joseph told reporters in Lagos.
In his remarks, Secretary-General of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), Olabanji Oladapo, who was present at the opening ceremony on Tuesday thumbed up NSSF for the initiative.
“I’m glad to be here today to witness this event because in the last one-year NSSF leadership has indeed positioned the federation in a good light for the best of our school sports. We are going to partner with them to organise more training for sports coordinators and we believe this kind of training would help to improve the fortune of sports in schools in Nigeria,” he said.
Executive Chairman, Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), Sola Ayepekun also hailed NSSF for its deliberate efforts to change the face of school sports in the country, which, he said, was in tandem with their ideals in Lagos State.
Meanwhile, the Executive Chairman, Lagos SUBEB, Alawiye King, has urged the participants to replicate all that they learnt during the seminar in their various states to help take school sports in Nigeria to the next level.
