The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has made it mandatory for prospective corps members to secure clearance from the National Electronic Registration Database (NERD) before they can be mobilised for national service.
The directive was issued on Monday through a public notice posted on the scheme’s official X account as preparations continue for the mobilisation of a new batch of prospective corps members.
According to the NYSC, obtaining the clearance is now a compulsory requirement, and those who fail to complete the process on time risk delays in joining the national service programme. The scheme encouraged prospective corps members to begin the clearance process early to avoid unnecessary setbacks.
“This is to inform PCMs (Prospective Corps Members) that without NERD clearance, no NYSC. Get your NERD clearance early. Avoid delays in your mobilisation.”
The agency further stressed the importance of the requirement, stating, “NERD clearance is compulsory for all PCMs. No NERD clearance, No NYSC!!!”
While the notice did not explain how the clearance process would be carried out, the latest directive indicates that the NYSC is strengthening its verification procedures ahead of the next orientation exercise.

The announcement comes shortly after the scheme unveiled plans for the mobilisation of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ prospective corps members, calling on tertiary institutions and eligible graduates to ensure all necessary documentation is completed before the orientation programme begins.
It also follows a recent advisory in which the NYSC urged prospective corps members to avoid travelling to orientation camps at night because of security concerns.
The scheme advised those embarking on the journey to suspend their trips whenever necessary and spend the night in secure locations or at designated military and security formations where available instead of travelling after dark.
The recent advisories underscore the NYSC’s efforts to tighten the credibility of its mobilisation process while prioritising the safety of prospective corps members amid persistent security challenges on Nigerian highways.
As mobilisation activities progress, the scheme expects all prospective corps members to complete every required registration and verification process, including the now-mandatory NERD clearance, before reporting to their orientation camps.
