Obasanjo Urges Adeleke To Sustain Good Governance In Osun

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has urged Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, to sustain his administration’s focus on good governance and continue delivering the dividends of democracy to residents.

Obasanjo made the call during what was described as a surprise congratulatory visit to Adeleke at his residence in Ede on Sunday, following the governor’s victory in the August 15 governorship election.

A statement issued by Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, and made available in Osogbo on Monday, August 17, said Obasanjo visited the governor alongside Mr Oyewole Fasawe.

According to the statement, Adeleke welcomed the former president with dancing and a song of praise to God for the successful outcome of the election.

The statement quoted Obasanjo as praying for further successes for the governor while urging him to remain focused on governance and the welfare of the people.

“The former president prayed for further successes of the governor and urged him to continue on the path of good governance and delivery of dividends of democracy.

“Continue to deliver good governance. Continue to meet the needs of your people.”

Adeleke, who expressed surprise at the former president’s visit, thanked Obasanjo for the gesture and pledged to remain committed to serving the people of Osun.

“Baba, I thank you for this surprise visit. I promise never to disappoint God, the Osun people and all lovers of democracy who made our victory possible,” the governor said.

The statement added that the Deputy Governor of Osun State, Prince Kola Adewusi, accompanied Adeleke in receiving the former president.

First Daily reports that Adeleke was declared winner of the August 15 governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission’s State Returning Officer on Sunday.

The governor, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party, secured 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, who polled 444,815 votes.
