Obidient Movement Backs Obi’s Four-Year Pledge, Hails Him As Accountable Leader

The Obidient Movement has thrown its weight behind the presidential ambition of Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate Peter Obi, describing him as a leader whose actions consistently match his promises.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television on Sunday, the National Coordinator of the movement, Yunusa Tanko, said Obi’s track record in public office distinguishes him from many politicians, particularly in the area of accountability and keeping campaign promises.

Tanko’s remarks came a day after Obi was officially declared the presidential candidate of the NDC for the 2027 general election.

According to him, Obi has built a reputation for delivering on commitments made to the electorate and has repeatedly encouraged Nigerians to hold him accountable for his promises.

“Peter Obi is different because he doesn’t just make promises; he keeps them and wants Nigerians to hold him accountable,” Tanko said.

He pointed to Obi’s tenure as governor of Anambra State as evidence of his commitment to transparent and responsible leadership, noting that the former governor’s recent pledge to serve only a single four-year term if elected president reflects the same principle.

Tanko explained that the four-year commitment was not merely a campaign statement but was publicly affirmed within the party and formally captured during the NDC’s candidate affirmation process, including resolutions relating to zoning arrangements after the proposed tenure.

He said the declaration has further strengthened confidence among Obi’s supporters, who view it as a demonstration of integrity and trustworthiness in leadership.

“For supporters, this is a clear signal that what he promises is what he intends to do, and it reinforces his message of accountability and trust in leadership,” he added.

The endorsement comes as the NDC intensifies preparations for the 2027 presidential election following Obi’s emergence as the party’s flagbearer.

Shortly after accepting the nomination, Obi announced former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, as his vice-presidential running mate, a move that has generated significant political interest ahead of the election season.

Political observers say the NDC ticket is expected to shape conversations around governance, accountability, and national unity as parties begin positioning themselves for what is likely to be a fiercely contested presidential race.
