Former Governor of Rivers State, Dr. Peter Odili, on Tuesday, the 13th of January, 2026, reaffirmed his backing for Governor Siminalayi Fubara amid ongoing political unrest in the state.
The assurance came during an event held in Port Harcourt, where Odili encouraged the governor to remain steadfast despite the challenges. He emphasised that the people of Rivers State stand firmly behind him.
According to Odili, “Your people are with you, and they have asked me to tell you that you are the political leader of Rivers State.

‘Rivers people said that wherever you go, we will go with you. Wherever you stand, we will stand with you. You are standing on firm ground. Stand there and hold on to God.’”
The remarks by Odili were made against the backdrop of a renewed confrontation between Governor Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, which has heightened political tensions in Rivers State.
Observers note that Odili’s show of support is a strategic endorsement aimed at consolidating Fubara’s position while signalling the continued loyalty of key political stakeholders in the state.
