The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun 1 Area Command, has intercepted a massive haul of contraband, including 940 rounds of live ammunition, 71 sacks of illicit goods, and 3,253 parcels of cannabis sativa.

Speaking at a press conference held at the Idiroko Customs House in Yewa South Local Government Area on Tuesday, the Comptroller of the Command, Mohammed Shuaibu, attributed the seizure to the Command’s ongoing intelligence-driven operations aimed at combating smuggling and the inflow of contraband through the Idiroko border.

The intercepted items were part of a larger haul that also included 16,712 bags of foreign parboiled rice and 139,881 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), amounting to a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of ₦1,267,504,035.

Public Relations Officer of the Command, Hammed Oloyede, in a statement, revealed that the seizures, which took place between 2024 and early 2025, underscore the Command’s commitment to securing Nigeria’s borders and economy.

Other seized items include 2,002 bags of smuggled rice, 6,180 pieces of cutlasses, and 6,375 litres of PMS, with a total DPV of ₦77,476,185.

Oloyede further disclosed that the Command recorded an impressive revenue generation of ₦275,835,406 in 2024, largely from baggage assessments, auction sales of seized PMS, and confiscated vehicles.

He attributed the Command’s success to the diligence and professionalism of its officers, as well as the cooperation of compliant traders who adhere to Customs regulations.

The Comptroller commended the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, and the management of the NCS for their unwavering support. He also praised the officers of the Ogun 1 Area Command for their resilience and dedication despite operational challenges.

“The progress made by the Ogun 1 Area Command reflects our unwavering commitment to national security, economic stability, and border protection,” Shuaibu stated.

“As we move into 2025, we remain resolute in safeguarding the economy and ensuring the safety of every Nigerian,” the statement concluded.
