The Ogun State Government has announced the commencement of tolling operations on the Epe-Mojoda-Ijebu-Ode Expressway, starting Monday, March 24, 2025. The move aims to ensure sustainable road maintenance and facilitate smooth vehicular movement for enhanced safety and economic growth.
The 14.7km expressway, which had suffered years of neglect and deterioration, was reconstructed by Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration into a modern roadway with state-of-the-art facilities, including toll booths.
Why Tolling Is Starting Now
In a statement on Wednesday, the Director-General, Office of Public-Private Partnerships, Hon. Dapo Oduwole, explained that despite the road’s PPP arrangement, the government delayed tolling since 2021 to ease the financial burden on residents and commuters.
Governor Abiodun, he said, recognized the expressway as a strategic economic corridor linking Lagos and Ogun State, making its completion a priority.
“Prince Dapo Abiodun, upon assuming office, identified the economic importance of the Epe-Mojoda-Ijebu-Ode Expressway and incorporated it into his vision for an efficient transport system to boost the state’s microeconomy,” Oduwole stated.
Exemptions and Compliance
While urging compliance with the tolling regulations, Oduwole noted that some road users would be exempt from toll charges, including:
Emergency response vehicles (ambulances, fire service, and patrol vehicles)
Government-owned security vehicles
Official Ogun State Government vehicles
Other categories as determined by the state government

He emphasized that enforcement measures would be implemented without fear or favor, ensuring compliance from all road users.
“While considering the interests of the people, we must also recognize the economic rights of investors. Striking this balance necessitates the commencement of tolling after nearly four years of free access,” he added.
The Ogun State Government assured commuters that the expressway remains one of the best in the country, with adequate amenities to ensure seamless travel.
