Civil servants in Ogun State will benefit from new relief measures approved by Governor Dapo Abiodun, including a weekly day off and a ₦10,000 monthly transport allowance for three months starting from April 2026.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Thursday, April 16, by the Head of Service, Kehinde Onasanya.
He explained that the initiative was designed to ease the financial strain caused by rising fuel prices and the resulting increase in transportation costs and overall living expenses.
Onasanya stated, “Towards providing succour to the teeming workforce of Ogun State in light of the hike in the pump price of fuel in the country and its attendant impact on the cost of transportation and general standard of living, Gov Dapo Abiodun has graciously approved one day off duty in a week for workers in the state.
“This is in addition to the payment of ₦10,000.00 special transport allowance as palliatives for three months commencing from April, 2026.

He noted that the measures are expected to offer relief to workers while also enhancing their productivity.
However, the Head of Service clarified that employees in essential roles, including medical personnel, judicial staff, teachers, security operatives, and heads of departments, would not participate in the weekly day-off arrangement, although they would still receive the transport allowance.
He added that accounting officers across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies would determine the specific day off for eligible staff in a way that ensures uninterrupted service delivery.
Onasanya commended the governor for what he described as a timely intervention and urged workers to respond with greater commitment and efficiency in their duties.
