Ogun Headmaster Arrested for Alleged Sexual Assault on Pupil

The Ogun State Government has announced the arrest of Ashafa Afelaja, a private school headmaster in Eyin Ogbe, Igode, near Ogijo, over allegations of sexually assaulting a female pupil.

Afelaja was taken into custody after a concerned citizen alerted the state authorities about the incident.

Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Adijat Adeleye, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Monday, March 17, assuring that the government was taking action to support the victim and ensure justice.

“Our rescue team has intervened in Adamo, Ikorodu, a border community, following reports of a school headmaster physically assaulting (sodomising) a young female pupil.

“While the perpetrator is presently within police custody, we are following up on the rescued child and mother for necessary attention and further action,” Adeleye said.

She added that the victim was receiving medical care and psychological support while the ministry worked with law enforcement to ensure the case was properly handled.

“We want to assure the public that the victim is receiving the necessary medical care and psychological support.

“The Ministry remains resolute in securing justice for all survivors of abuse and will continue to work with law enforcement agencies to ensure swift and decisive action against perpetrators,” she stated.

Adeleye urged the public to remain vigilant and report cases of child abuse and domestic violence, reaffirming the government’s commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against such crimes.

Similarly, state officials also rescued a four-year-old boy in Igboko, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area, after receiving reports that he had been brutally assaulted by his father.

The child is currently under the protective care of the ministry and is receiving medical and emotional support.

“The alleged perpetrator is currently in police custody with all necessary legal arrangements underway to ensure justice is served.

“At present, the child is stable and responding well to medical treatment, with further tests and evaluations being conducted to ensure his full recovery,” Adeleye said.

She called on residents to support the fight against gender-based violence and child abuse, pledging that the state government would continue to protect vulnerable individuals.
