The Chairman of the Labour Party (LP) in Ogun State, Comrade Michael Ashade, has appealed to the warring factions within the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) to sheath their swords and unite for the success of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Wednesday, Ashade reacted to the ongoing leadership crisis in the party following the Supreme Court’s recent affirmation of Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the LP. He urged Senator Nenadi Usman, who chairs a factional caretaker committee, and other aggrieved leaders to respect the court’s judgment in the interest of peace and party unity.
Ashade warned that the continued infighting at the national level could jeopardize the party’s chances of dislodging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next elections, both at the federal and state levels. He emphasized the need for reconciliation and collective effort to reposition the party for victory in 2027.

“It is imperative that once the Supreme Court—the highest court in the land—has given its verdict, all parties are bound to comply in order to maintain peace,” Ashade said. “Part of democratic ideals is the prevalence of the rule of law, party supremacy, and internal democracy. All parties should return to the drawing board to chart a common front as a strong and viable opposition in preparation for 2027.”
The Ogun LP Chairman also extended his call for peace to the state chapter, urging disgruntled members to reconcile and work together to build a formidable front.
“Same goes for the crisis in Ogun State and other states across the country. Without the full entrenchment of democratic institutions, development and the true dividends of democracy cannot be achieved,” he added. “I implore all members to remain steadfast and focused on the total redemption of Nigeria.”
