Ogun NLC Declares Indefinite Strike, Demands Immediate Dialogue With Govt

Segun Ayinde, Abeokuta

The Ogun State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has declared an indefinite strike over unpaid wage arrears, poor working conditions, and the state government’s failure to honour previously signed agreements with the labour union.

The industrial action, which took effect on Monday, followed a resolution reached at the General Parliament of Ogun State Civil and Public Service Workers held at the Arcade Ground, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

In a joint statement signed by the State NLC Chairman, Comrade Hameed-Benco Ademola, and the State Secretary, Comrade Christian Omoneh, the union directed all workers in the state to withdraw their services and down tools until further notice.

The union also demanded immediate dialogue with the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun to address their grievances.

“All workers are hereby directed to fully comply with this indefinite strike action until we are instructed otherwise,” the statement read.

“Any defiance of this directive will attract consequences. We urge the state government to, as soon as possible, call for dialogue to address the concerns of our teeming members.”

The NLC leadership vowed to keep workers updated as the situation develops, adding: “A united workforce can never be defeated. Solidarity forever.”

In recent months, the NLC has raised repeated concerns over the government’s handling of labour-related matters, including the backlog of unpaid wages, deteriorating workplace conditions, and the failure to implement terms of past agreements.

As tension mounts, stakeholders have begun urging both the state government and labour representatives to return to the negotiation table to ensure industrial harmony and prevent further disruption to public services.
