Ogun Police Crack Down On Illegal Plates, Sirens

In a renewed drive to improve security and protect residents across the state, the Ogun State Police Command has stepped up operations against motorists using unauthorised number plates, temporary vehicle plates, as well as vehicles fitted with illegal sirens and amber warning lights.

The development was confirmed on Wednesday, the 21st of January, 2026, by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, in a statement released to journalists in Abeokuta.

Babaseyi noted that vehicles operating with such illegal features are frequently used as tools for criminal operations, thereby endangering lives and undermining public confidence in road safety.

He stated that security operatives have commenced the identification, arrest, and prosecution of violators in line with existing legal provisions.

The police spokesperson further disclosed that dedicated teams have been mobilised to ensure that the enforcement process remains professional and within the bounds of the law.

“To ensure professional and lawful enforcement, specialised units including the Motor Traffic Department, Monitoring Unit, and X-Squad have been deployed for operational oversight.

“Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers are supervising activities within their jurisdictions to guarantee fairness, transparency, and strict adherence to approved operational guidelines” the spokesperson added.

In addition, the Command appealed to residents to support the ongoing operations by obeying traffic rules, remaining vigilant, and refraining from engaging with suspicious vehicles.

Babaseyi advised members of the public to utilise only approved motor parks and authorised pick-up points, stressing that public cooperation is vital to the success of the initiative.

He assured that the intensified enforcement exercise is designed to deter crime, sustain public order, and safeguard lives, while ensuring that the rights and dignity of all road users are fully respected.
