Ogun SWAT Nabs Railway Theft Suspect, Recovers 16 Iron Rods

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested Shobande Taofeek, 36, over alleged railway vandalism and theft in Arigbajo, recovering 16 iron rods and two gas cylinders.

Police spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said in a statement on Sunday, October 25, 2026, that operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit arrested the suspect on Friday, October 23, following intelligence reports.

The suspect reportedly led officers to an uncompleted building where the items were recovered. Preliminary investigations indicated that he had allegedly admitted involvement in similar offences on three previous occasions.

Police said efforts were ongoing to apprehend other suspects and recover additional stolen property.

The arrest follows a separate case in September 2026 involving a 33-year-old man accused of removing railway fence fittings in Agbado. No link between the cases has been established.

Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni urged residents to provide credible information to help protect public infrastructure and prevent crime.

The allegations against Taofeek remain under investigation.
