The All Progressives Congress in Imo State on Tuesday said that the former governor of the state, Rochas Okorocha, has since ceased to be a member of the party.
This was as the party rejected reports it endorsed Okorocha’s 2023 presidential ambition.
In a statement by its spokesman, Cajetan Duke, the state APC insisted that the Imo West senator lost his membership of the party when he failed to revalidate his membership during APC’s last registration and revalidation exercise.
The statement read, “For the avoidance of doubt, the leadership of Imo APC declares that Okorocha, representing Imo West at the Senate is as at today, no longer a member of the APC because of his deliberate failure to revalidate his membership of the party during the last registration and revalidation exercise adjudged to be most transparent, open and peaceful.
“It is, therefore, an odious and extreme subterfuge for anyone to issue a statement indicating that Imo APC, which Okorocha is no longer a member, has endorsed and passed a vote of confidence in him to contest for the presidential ticket of our great party.”
Accusing Okorocha of indulging in “melodramatics when he was the governor of Imo State,” Imo APC said the senator lacked character, competence and credibility to be Nigeria’s president.
