In a development just in, the Ondo State House of Assembly is scheduled to convene for a plenary session today to address the pressing political situation in the state. Reliable sources indicate that the lawmakers are contemplating declaring Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the deputy governor, as the acting governor.
This move follows Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s prolonged absence due to health issues, with the governor currently recuperating at his residence in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Despite the impending session, there are indications of potential dissent among the lawmakers regarding Aiyedatiwa’s elevation. Some members may not be in attendance due to disagreements on this matter.
Notably, the National Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has given its consent for the assembly’s meeting.
A source close to the matter stated, “The lawmakers are ready to meet today. One of the agenda items is the declaration of Lucky Aiyedatiwa as the acting governor. Although there might be opposition among some lawmakers, the national leadership of the APC is aware and has approved the meeting, signaling a possible declaration of Aiyedatiwa as acting governor.”
When contacted by a media outfit, Mr. Olatunji Oshati, Chairman of the House Committee on Information, confirmed the development. However, he refrained from confirming whether Aiyedatiwa would indeed be declared as the acting governor.
Oshati mentioned, “The House is going to sit on the matter and review the political situation today as directed by our national leaders. The House has likely made the declaration, but the outcome remains uncertain. If it does occur, the public is invited to witness the development.”
In a related development, it has been reported that President Bola Tinubu is set to meet with members of the Assembly in Abuja today to address the lingering crisis.
