The Netufo Family has announced the passing of High Chief (Dr.) Olaniyi Alaba Netufo (FNIQS), a respected traditional leader, politician, and public servant from Famo Quarters, Igbobini Kingdom, in Ese-Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
In a statement titled “Exit of an Icon,” issued on December 18, 2025, the family described the late Netufo as a devoted Christian, accomplished professional, and progressive political figure whose life was marked by service to God, community, and country.
Until his demise, High Chief Netufo was widely known for his contributions to tourism development in Nigeria. He developed several tourism and cultural establishments across the country and founded NECOL (NIG) Limited over four decades ago. He also served at the federal level as Executive Director of Corporate Services at the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Abuja.
Politically, the late chief was a committed progressive who belonged to several parties over the years, including the Alliance for Democracy (AD), Action Congress (AC), Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), and the All Progressives Congress (APC). He was also a member of the APC Aborigines in Ondo State.

Beyond public service and politics, High Chief Netufo was an accomplished sportsman. He was a notable handball player, serving as a team member and captain at Aquinas College, Akure, and later representing Ondo State in the 1970s.
He is survived by his wife and three children. The Netufo Family said burial arrangements will be announced to the public in due course.
The family concluded the statement with prayers for his soul to rest in perfect peace, describing his passing as the exit of an icon whose legacy will endure across generations.
