The Ondo State Government has announced a restriction on the operations of commercial motorcycles across the 18 local government areas of the state as part of new security measures.
The restriction, which took immediate effect on Wednesday, limits the operation of motorcycles between 6am and 7pm daily.
The Commander of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, Adetunji Adeleye, disclosed this at the headquarters of the corps in Akure.
Adeleye said the directive was issued by the state governor in line with relevant laws and public safety regulations aimed at strengthening security and protecting lives and property across the state.
“I want to put it on record that by the directive of the governor of Ondo State and pursuant to the relevant laws and public safety regulations of Ondo State, the Ondo State Security Network Agency hereby notifies the general public of the following security measures and regulatory directives currently in force within the state,” he said.
He explained that the use of motorcycles would be prohibited between 7pm and 6am across the state, noting that the restriction affects all operators except security personnel and individuals offering essential services specifically exempted by the government.
The commander also directed all motorcycle users and operators in the state to register and obtain certification from the Amotekun Corps either at its headquarters or at various local government commands.
According to him, any operator who fails to comply with the registration requirement would be considered to be operating unlawfully.
The state government also announced a ban on cart pushing in major towns as part of measures to enhance public safety and improve traffic management.

“The activities of cart pushers within major metropolises across Ondo State are hereby prohibited. This measure is intended to promote public safety, ensure better traffic management and maintain environmental order within urban centres,” Adeleye stated.
In addition, the government directed all dealers in condemned iron scrap metals to register with the state within two weeks from the date of the announcement or risk enforcement actions.
The government further prohibited the display or sale of farm produce outside approved markets across the state.
Meanwhile, Adeleye disclosed that the Amotekun Corps had arrested 70 suspects in connection with various criminal activities across the state.
He said the suspects were allegedly involved in crimes including kidnapping, stealing, vandalism, burglary and human trafficking.
While parading the suspects, the commander said 18 of those arrested were linked to kidnapping, while others were apprehended for offences related to breach of law and order, anti-grazing violations, human trafficking and court-related cases.
