The Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu, has commended Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, for implementing the revised Professional and Specialist Allowances for its members.
ARD President, Dr John Omotoso, said in a statement on Sunday, August 30, 2026, that the payment fulfilled the government’s commitment following negotiations over the doctors’ demands.
He said the development would boost doctors’ morale and productivity while improving OOUTH’s ability to attract and retain medical personnel.
The payment follows a 10-day warning strike that began on June 23, 2026, over unpaid revised allowances and arrears, delayed 2026 Medical Residency Training Fund, manpower shortages and other welfare concerns.
The doctors suspended the strike on June 25 after the state government pledged to pay the professional allowance by July 31, 2026.

The resolution followed meetings involving Secretary to the State Government, Mr Tokunbo Talabi; Head of Service, Mr Iskeel Saka; and the Ogun State chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association.
Omotoso said the implementation would help address staffing gaps in some departments and strengthen OOUTH’s role as a centre for postgraduate medical training.
The association also acknowledged Talabi, Saka and immediate past Ogun NMA Chairman, Dr Ogunjimi Lukman, for their roles in resolving the dispute.
The development comes amid wider concerns over resident doctors’ remuneration and training support. In September 2025, the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors staged a five-day nationwide strike over unpaid allowances, salary arrears and delays in the Medical Residency Training Fund.
Omotoso said the ARD would continue engaging government and other stakeholders to advance postgraduate medical training and healthcare delivery in Ogun State.
