Opposition NPP Stages Protest in Accra Over Alleged Harassment by Ruling Party

Supporters of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) took to the streets of Accra on Tuesday in protest against what they described as “harassment and abuse of power” by the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The demonstrators, chanting solidarity songs and carrying placards, accused the government of using state machinery to intimidate opposition figures and suppress dissent.

Party leaders who addressed the crowd said the protest was necessary to draw attention to what they called growing political intolerance and abuse of authority under the NDC administration.

“We will not be silenced. Democracy cannot thrive when opposition voices are harassed and institutions are manipulated,” one of the NPP officials told supporters during the march.

However, the ruling NDC has strongly rejected the allegations, describing them as baseless.

Government officials insist that no opposition member is being targeted and accused the NPP of attempting to stir unrest ahead of next year’s elections.

Despite the government’s denial, the protest went ahead peacefully under heavy police presence, with authorities monitoring to ensure order was maintained.

The demonstration highlights the mounting political tension in Ghana as both major parties brace up for the country’s next electoral cycle.
