Ortom disagrees with FG on review of Land use Act

Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom said he was ready to turn down the plans by the Federal Government to review the Land use Act.

According to the governor, the move by the Federal Government was purposely to secure land for open grazing, cattle routes and grazing reserves.

Ortom spoke on Monday while reacting to the alleged plan by the Federal Government to review the Land Use Act of 1978 to give ownership of land to the Federal Government and to push for take over of waterways and River Banks by the Federal Government.

He vowed to resist any attempt to review the Land Use Act by the presidency, saying that it has a hidden agenda.

He also noted that Livestock Guards would not be held liable for any strayed cattle in the course of trying to impound livestock that contravene the ranching law of the state.

The governor noted that herders always come armed, attack and sometimes kill Livestock Guards and security agents in the course of discharging their responsibilities.

He said the herdsmen should obey the rule of the state on open grazing ban.

The governor, who also received the Assistant Commandant General, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, in charge of Zone H, Harilu Usman, acknowledged the support of Agro Rangers to peace and security in the state.
