Despite Nigeria’s current struggle in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers, Super Eagles defender Bright Osayi-Samuel remains unwavering in his belief that the team will book a spot at the 2026 tournament.
Speaking to sports journalists on Tuesday at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin, the Fenerbahçe full-back expressed confidence in the squad’s ability to bounce back from a challenging position and secure qualification.
“In terms of Super Eagles qualifiers, I believe we will qualify for the World Cup,” Osayi-Samuel stated. “The aim is just to win every single game. Of course, it will be difficult, but for us and the team, I think we have a good chance.”
The Super Eagles currently sit fourth in their qualifying group, trailing group leaders South Africa by six points with only four matches remaining.
The team has come under increased scrutiny following inconsistent performances that have left fans concerned about their chances.
However, Osayi-Samuel sees a positive shift under Coach Eric Chelle, praising the new tactical direction and the squad’s alignment with the coach’s vision.

“For me, the coach is fantastic. The way he wants us to press and run — I think everyone in the team has aligned with his ideas,” he said.
Reflecting on their recent international friendly against Russia, which ended in a draw, Osayi-Samuel highlighted the team’s defensive discipline against an in-form Russian side that had not lost in their last six or seven matches.
“In our last game against Russia, we contained a team that hadn’t lost in several matches. If we keep working together, we have a good chance,” he added.
The Super Eagles — three-time African champions — now face mounting pressure to win their remaining fixtures if they are to keep their World Cup hopes alive.
With players like Osayi-Samuel showing belief and commitment, fans will be hoping the team can find their form just in time.
