Arise Television anchor, Oseni Rufai, has reacted after a DNA test confirmed that the previously unidentified body deposited at the Ikorodu General Hospital mortuary in Lagos was that of missing journalist, Pelumi Onifade.
The DNA test result, presented by the Lagos State DNA and Forensic Centre to the coroner, established that the body, tagged 1385, belonged to Onifade, a reporter with Gboah TV.
According to findings from the coroner’s proceedings, the unidentified body was deposited at the mortuary on November 3, 2020, following the journalist’s disappearance during the #EndSARS protests.
Reacting to the development via his X account on Friday, Rufai questioned previous official claims that no lives were lost during the protests.

He wrote, “I thought they said nobody died.”
His comment has since generated reactions on social media, with many Nigerians describing the DNA confirmation as a painful reminder of the unresolved issues surrounding the #EndSARS protests and renewed calls for accountability.
The DNA confirmation brings an end to years of uncertainty over Onifade’s whereabouts after he went missing while covering the protests against police brutality in October 2020. His family is expected to continue seeking justice as the coroner’s inquest progresses.
