Super Eagles dare-devil striker, Victor Osimhen, scored his first Serie A goal as a Napoli player with a clinical finish against Atalanta in the 43rd minute on Saturday.
Napoli’s record acquisition in history bagged his first goal in the Italian top-flight as the Blues thrashed Atalanta 4-1 at Stadio San Paolo.
Osimhen fired blanks on his debut against Parma on September 20 and also failed to score when he made his first start against Genoa the following weekend.
It was going so well for Napoli inside 30 minutes with Hirving Lozano netting a brace and an additional tally from Matteo Politano giving them a 3-0 lead and the scoreline became more emphatic when Osimhen added a fourth.
In the 43rd minute, the Super Eagles star chested a long ball upfield from former Arsenal goalkeeper, David Ospina, then turned and drilled low into the bottom corner.
Atalanta pulled a goal back through Sam Lammers in the 69th minute but it only ended up being a consolation goal.
After scoring, Osimhen held up a shirt with the inscription, “End Police Brutality in Nigeria”.
1stnewsonline.com gathered that Osimhen had previously shown his support for the #EndSARS protesters.
On October 12, the striker took to Twitter saying the power of the people outweighs those in government.
“The power of the people is always stronger than the people in power. Remember DAT #ReformNigeriaPolice,” he tweeted.
Two days earlier, Osimhen also called for an end to police brutality in Nigeria, insisting that the human rights abuses by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) must end.
This comes three months after Napoli signed him with a $94.6 million to bring the Nigerian striker to southern Italy on a five-year deal.
Last season, the former Charleroi attacker scored 18 goals in all games for Lille; and has been linked with a move to Naples in recent times.
His stellar showing for the French side saw him winning the Lille Player of the Season just as he made it to Ligue 1’s team for the 2019/2020 campaign.
Meanwhile, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Saturday, October 17, confirmed the trial of some policemen implicated in the death of an #EndSARS protester in the Surulere area of the state.
Sanwo-Olu made this disclosure via his Twitter handle days after some police officers fired live ammunition at peaceful protesters in the Area C Police Command of Lagos.
“Yesterday (Friday), the orderly room trial of the police officers involved in the Surulere incident began,” the governor revealed.
