The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo on Monday in Asaba, Delta State capital, said that integrity, diligence, hard work and service to the community, people, and the country remained the way to go.
Osinbajo spoke on Monday while inaugurating the multi-billion naira Delta secretariat named after the Asagba of Asaba, Prof. Chike Edozien, and the state’s 8.5 MW Independent Power Project (IPP).
He said that the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa-led government had shown extreme bravery in building infrastructure which had maintained peace, unity and development despite financial problems facing the whole country.
According to him, the civil servants who constituted the engine room of government policy execution, deserved a more befitting and well-groomed work environment to deliver effective service.
The vice president, who described Asagba as a renowned professor, said that the inauguration was historic and extremely wonderful because the seat of the civil service anywhere in the whole world is usually one of the major and important monuments enshrining not just power but the splendor and greatness of authority.
“This imposing complex clearly meets this requirement, in due course, such a building becomes a historical and great monument and the commissioning of this wonderful secretariat is fantastic and excellent in at least two different ways.
“The civil service and people of Delta are today being present with the state of the art, functional and befitting secretariat complex after so many years and this is worthy of celebration.
“The state government at the same time is immortalizing the name of one other statesman and indeed Nigeria’s most illustrious son, HRM, Prof Chile Edozien, the Asagba of Asaba.
“He happens to be Nigeria’s oldest living professor in any discipline and an internationally renowned
Professor of medicine,” he said.
Osinbajo described the Asagba of Asaba as a fantastic bridge builder and a patriot who made sure people and residents of Asaba were extremely secure and live in love, peace and harmony.
He prayed that the edifice would be a symbol of togetherness and distinction, which stood out personality that it was named after.
Earlier, Okowa, who expressed joy at the arrival of the Vice President, described him as a true and fantastic statesman and an uncommon and exceptional leader.
“The government and fantastic people of Delta State appreciate you today and always. We extremely value your friendship, partnership and true interest in the moving forward of our state”, he stated.
