The Oyo State High Court in Ibadan has extended its interim order restraining the United Bank for Africa (UBA) from allowing withdrawals from 30 bank accounts holding local government allocations for Osun State, which were withheld and deposited by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
The extension, issued on Friday, October 3, 2025, by Justice Ladiran Akintola, will remain in effect until Thursday, October 9, 2025.
The court said the extension is necessary to ensure a fair hearing for all parties, including the Attorney-General of Osun State, the Osun State Local Government Service Commission, and UBA Plc.
The dispute, registered as Suit No. 1/1149/2025, centers on the legitimacy of council chairmen in Osun State.
Former council chairmen of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have applied to join the suit, challenging the court’s jurisdiction and arguing that disbursing the funds before the resolution of the dispute would undermine ongoing proceedings.

The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the related case on Tuesday, October 7, 2025. Plaintiffs maintain that the outcome will determine the rightful claimants to the funds.
The court’s decision to extend the freeze underscores the judiciary’s role in safeguarding public resources and ensuring legal processes are followed before the release of local government allocations.
The matter is set for further hearing on October 9, 2025.
