Osun Police Threaten Tough Action against Politicians Planning LG Workers’ Disruption

Osun State Police Command on Friday issued a stern warning against any attempt to disrupt the resumption of local government employees at council secretariats across the state.

In a statement signed by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Giwa-Alade, on behalf of the state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, the command said it had received credible intelligence indicating that certain unscrupulous politicians were planning to interfere with the workers’ return.

The police warned that such acts would not be tolerated and would be met with “resolute and decisive action” to maintain law and order.

The warning comes after the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) ended an almost 11-month strike on Monday, announcing its readiness to resume work from January 5. The union, led by President Dr. Nathaniel Ogungbangbe, urged security agencies to deploy adequate protection for all 30 local government councils, area offices, and LCDAs to prevent intimidation or illegal occupation of council secretariats.

However, the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had raised concerns, accusing the union of potential interference in local government crises and alerting security agencies.

The police command stressed that only bona fide local government employees should be present at council premises, warning that anyone attempting to incite unrest or cause disturbances would be dealt with firmly and professionally.

CP Gotan reassured residents of the state that the police remain committed to protecting lives and property while ensuring a peaceful environment across Osun State.
