Abia State Governor Alex Otti has confirmed that the state government is set to upgrade the Umuahia Township Stadium to serve Abia Warriors and other football teams as a temporary fix.
He made this known on Wednesday, the 30th of July, 2025, during a meeting with Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Ibrahim Gusau, and his team at his country home in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South LGA.
“On the issue of the stadium, the Umuahia Township Stadium, not too long ago, I had given approval to upgrade the place and make the place what a stadium should look like,” he said.
Otti explained that while the short-term plan involves refurbishing the current stadium, a long-term initiative is also underway. He said the architectural work for a new stadium city in Umuahia is ongoing and will cater to broader sporting activities.
He also emphasized the role of sports, especially football, in fostering unity across the country, stressing that governance should bring meaningful impact to the people.
