Otti to SEDC: Prioritise Power Supply for South-East’s Economic Growth

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has called on the South East Development Commission (SEDC) to place electricity supply at the forefront of its developmental agenda, describing it as essential for the region’s economic advancement.

Governor Otti made this appeal on Thursday during a courtesy visit by the SEDC delegation to his office. He stressed that without stable power, industrialisation and manufacturing — key drivers of economic growth — would remain stunted.

“You are the development body representing the South East. One critical area that demands urgent intervention is electricity,” Otti stated.

The governor disclosed ongoing negotiations between the Abia State Government and Interstate Electrics Limited to acquire its equity in the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC).

According to him, the move would enable the government to supply electricity to parts of the state not currently covered by Geometric Power.

He lauded President Bola Tinubu for establishing the SEDC, describing the commission as a vital tool to foster business growth and regional development.

In response, SEDC Chairman, Emeka Wogu, and Managing Director, Mark Okoye, applauded Otti’s dedication to the state’s progress.

They pledged the commission’s partnership in supporting Abia State’s development while reaffirming their commitment to the reconstruction and reintegration of the South East into the nation’s broader developmental framework.
