Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has urged journalists across Nigeria especially those in Abia to steer clear of spreading misinformation capable of causing public anxiety.
He gave the charge on the 24th of June, 2025, during the 2025 Media Vision Africa training held in Umuahia.
Speaking through the Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, the Governor encouraged reporters to share stories that uplift rather than unsettle the public.
He assured the media of ongoing cooperation with his government in building Abia and contributing to national growth.
He also advised participants in the training to avoid using propaganda and instead rely on truth when shaping their reports.
Otti emphasized the need for responsible reporting, warning against twisting facts. He urged journalists to present both sides of the story highlighting challenges and progress alike.

“In today’s Abia, where security and economic recovery are top priorities, we need narratives that inspire confidence, not fear.
“I urge all media practitioners in Abia and across Nigeria to remain faithful image makers, not merchants of fake news,” he said.
Also speaking at the event, Vision Africa President, Bishop Sunday Ndukwo Onuoha, said the training was designed to equip young journalists in Nigeria for future leadership roles.
He stressed that Nigerian youths must move beyond the mindset of waiting for political appointments and instead focus on becoming self-reliant creators of value and influence.
