Tension has erupted in Delta State following the alleged assault and teargassing of a church pastor and his wife by individuals identified as members of a church security unit known as the Royal Rangers.
The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday after service at Assemblies of God Church in Ughelli, sparking widespread concern among worshippers and the broader Christian community.
A video circulating on Facebook showed a chaotic scene inside the church premises, with men in uniform said to have stormed the service, physically confronted the pastor and his spouse, and allegedly deployed teargas during the altercation.
The footage has since triggered outrage online, with many calling for accountability.
The video, shared with the caption, “What’s happening at Assemblies of God Church, Ughelli? Today (Sunday), men in uniform reportedly stormed the church and assaulted the pastor and his wife.
This is deeply disturbing and calls for a thorough investigation,” has continued to gain traction across social media platforms.
Eyewitnesses claimed the situation escalated abruptly, forcing congregants into panic as the reported use of teargas disrupted the service and created a tense atmosphere within the church.

The Royal Rangers, typically known as a church-based youth and paramilitary-style group involved in mentoring and discipline, have not issued an official statement regarding the incident.
