Outrage in South Africa as Man Kills Girlfriend, Shares Video Online

South Africans have been left in shock and outrage after a man allegedly stabbed his girlfriend to death and posted a video of her lifeless body online.

The suspect, identified as Mfana Ngwenya, reportedly attacked his girlfriend, Kgaogelo Nnonu, outside a tavern in Maubane, Hammanskraal, Gauteng Province, in the early hours of Thursday, August 21, 2025.

According to initial reports, Ngwenya accused Kgaogelo of infidelity before slashing her throat multiple times in a fit of rage. He is said to have recorded the gruesome act, cursing her as she struggled for her final breath, before sharing the footage on Facebook. Though the video was later taken down, it had already circulated widely after being downloaded by other users.

The incident has drawn widespread condemnation, with many South Africans expressing anger over the brutality and the use of social media to broadcast the crime.

Ngwenya reportedly returned to Facebook after the killing to justify his actions, claiming that Kgaogelo betrayed him despite his sacrifices. In another post, he wrote that she had ‘ruined’ them but that he would “love her forever.”

“They may judge me but you and I know the truth. You ruined us. RIP… I promised you till death do us apart after I fought for your life. Will forever love you Mmamogashwa,” he wrote.

The disturbing posts have sparked fresh outrage, with gender-rights activists calling for swift justice and stronger measures to tackle gender-based violence in the country.

Community members in Hammanskraal described Kgaogelo as a vibrant young woman whose life was cut short in a senseless act of violence. Many have called on authorities to ensure the suspect faces the full weight of the law.

The killing comes amid rising concerns over gender-based violence in South Africa, a country where thousands of women fall victim to domestic abuse and femicide each year.
