Rumours of plans by police to release Olarenwaju Omiyinka popularly known as Baba-Ijesha, have been greeted with Outrage on social media.
Reports have claimed that Baba-Ijesha, who has been in police custody for alleged defilement of a minor, would be released on Friday.
Following the reports, many Nigerians took to Twitter to express their concerns.
Below are some of reactions:
@HenshawKate “Lawyers on the TL… Please what is the statute of limitation on rape, sexual assault, indecent assault and the like…?
@PoliceNG says they are releasing Baba Ijesha because the case against him is Statute barred…
Thank you kindly.”
@dammiedammie35 “Wow, so they released Baba ijesha because there was not enough evidence to keep him there until judiciary whatever comes back from strike! But they can arrest minors on the street without any evidence and treat them like shii cos they don’t have people to speak up for them! 🤡”.
@Deshysmalls “Instead of letting the law take it’s course, some people actually pulled strings to get Baba Ijesha released.
“Where were they when he actually needed help and only Princess was there for him?
“Our Justice system is so shit, i am sick to my stomach.”
@lollypeelze “Releasing Baba Ijesha is like putting his life in Danger. Imagine walking in Oshodi and hearing a thunderous slap on his neck from the back. Lock him up.”
@ebelee_ “Iyabo Ojo is saying that people are working to get Baba Ijesha out of Panti before the court decides his case & for goodness bloody sake, why are you trying to release a man that has been caught on cctv footage & used his mouth to confess, if you’re not an unfortunate person.”
@Daddy_Nomso “Police saw the CCTV Footage of Baba Ijesha touching the Child & said because it did not record him actually raping her there is not enough evidence. The NG Police suddenly know you can’t keep someone indefinitely without Trial.
Our Police suddenly know the Law🤡”
@SeanKleann “This Baba Ijesha’s case shouldn’t be turned into gender war or celebrity fracas.
“If he is found guilty then he should be jailed. Let’s do this for humanity.”
@Omokiikan “Police is set to release Baba Ijesha? I don’t blame the police, I blame Desmond Elliot, He’s the cause of all the problems in Nigeria 😲😲”.
@UNCLE_AJASA “Baba Ijesha confessed to the crime, Princess the Comedian the foster parent of the child said there’s a CCTV camera in the house that captured the event, and some people are still asking for evidence. Some people just wish to see the video of child molestation, which is madness.”
@BhadmusAkeem “I cried watching PrincesComedian videos during sahur. Watching Iyabo Ojo explain what she saw in the CCTV footage is aggravating my anger. Baba Ijesha is guilty. He admitted & has been apologizing since the news broke. Why are people still defending him?”
@ToolzO “All the people wanting to see this video of the young girl and Baba Ijesha, you know you’re essentially asking to see child porn right?”
@tareotukennedy “If this Baba Ijesha is not nailed, I will be surprised on how legal system. But if this doesn’t teach us that we need an immediate awareness intervention passed down to our kids and youths on law and sex education, then we are not saving the future. Below are tips to end this.”
@_msmaryam “I stand as a mother not as an actress, I stand as a woman not as a celebrity. If they release Baba Ijesha, we are going to re-arrest him. Iyabo Ojo 🤍”
@Medico_Zeal “He was caught on cam. He admitted and confessed to the police.
“Yet some insufferable dingbats like Yomi Fabiyi are making grounds for baba ijesha’s reprehensible actions. Again, yomi is a proper bastard.👍🏻”
@Tunnykvng “I thought Baba Ijesha confessed to the crime and there’s a CCTV footage that showed him touching the Child inappropriately.
“Unless the Nigerian Police is mad, on what ground are they releasing him?”
@MB38826370 “Have you seen the CCTV Footage? Why are they keeping the CCTV FOOTAGE I can’t be judging Baba Ijesha without seeing the CCTV FOOTAGE because I can’t listen to one side story and judge.”
