The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Owerri branch, has concluded investigations into the alleged assault on a legal practitioner, Barrister Olachi Madonna Anosike, which happened on the 20th of June, 2025.
A fact-finding committee set up for this purpose has held the Assistant Chief Registrar of the High Court, Owerri, Augustina Emenike, responsible for the act.
The incident was said to have occurred at the Chief Magistrate Court, Awaka, within the Owerri North Magisterial District. The court is presided over by Mrs. Emenike.
Led by Barrister Chetachi Udeh, the investigative panel presented its report at the NBA Bar Centre in Owerri.
According to the committee, Mrs. Augustina Chinwe Emenike was clearly implicated in the incident. They also noted that the Chairman of the High Court Welfare Scheme had submitted a written apology on her behalf.
The letter was read aloud at the session.
While receiving the report, NBA Owerri branch Chairman, Chris Ihentuge, confirmed the committee’s findings and acknowledged the apology.

He emphasized that although the apology did not come directly from the Registrar, the branch would examine both the report and the letter to determine appropriate next steps.
“The Executive Committee will review the report and the apology letter and act on the implications of both and take necessary actions,” Ihentuge stated.
In response to the committee’s conclusions, several lawyers, who preferred to remain anonymous, demanded that disciplinary measures be taken against the Assistant Chief Registrar.
They urged that she issue a personal apology to both Barrister Anosike and the NBA Owerri branch.
They also called for further sanctions from the judiciary to prevent similar incidents in the future.
