Oyetola orders police deployment in warring communities, seeks Army’s support

Osun State Governor Adegboyega Oyetola has ordered the deployment of police in Ilobu and Erin Osun communities to restore peace between the two warring communities in the state.

On Saturday, two people, Azeez Adamu and Abdullahi Tairu, were reportedly shot during a violent clash between the two communities over boundary.

The Osun governor announced the security measure in a statement titled, ‘Oyetola appeals for calm …Orders Police to restore law, order ….Wants army to support police’s effort,” and signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Ismail Omipidan.

Oyetola was also quoted in the statement as pleading with the warring groups in Irepodun Local Government Area of the state to sheath their swords and allow peace to reign.

The governor was said to have given the order during a marathon meeting with heads of security agencies in the state on Sunday morning during a meeting to review the security situation in Ilobu and Erin-Osun.

Oyetola said the immediate deployment of armed policemen with support from the army would restore law and order in the troubled areas.

According to the governor, “As a government, we are resolved to do everything possible to protect citizens from actual and potential threats. To this end, we have ordered the immediate deployment of security operatives to restore law and order.

“I want to appeal to our people not to destroy our collective heritage by taking laws into their own hands. Two wrongs don’t make a right. I, therefore, appeal to the warring parties to sheath their sword and allow peace to reign.”
