PDP BoT Holds Crucial Closed-Door Session Amid Wike’s Fallout, Secretariat Shutdown

The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) convened an emergency closed-door meeting Monday at the Bauchi State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, as the party grapples with deepening internal crises.

At the heart of the discussions is the recent fallout involving Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who abruptly pulled out of the party’s ongoing peace and reconciliation efforts.

Wike, a prominent figure in the PDP and a key player in the party’s internal politics, cited dishonesty among some top members — notably Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde — as the reason for his withdrawal.

Party sources say Wike’s decision has further strained already fragile unity within the PDP and has forced the BoT to reassess its strategy for mending fences.

Also high on the agenda is the controversial sealing of the party’s National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).

The FCTA shut down the building on Monday over unpaid ground rent reportedly accumulating for nearly three decades. With the closure, the PDP has temporarily relocated its operations to the Bauchi Lodge — a move symbolic of the party’s current administrative and structural turmoil.

Amid the turmoil, the BoT is considering a postponement of the scheduled National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting originally set for Tuesday.

Party elders say the delay may be necessary to provide breathing space for resolving conflicts and calming tempers within the ranks.

Tensions escalated further over the weekend when Wike publicly announced his exit from reconciliation talks, casting doubts over the party’s ability to present a united front ahead of key political activities.

Present at the ongoing meeting are several high-profile party stakeholders, including Acting National Chairman Umar Iliya Damagum; Governors Peter Mbah (Enugu), Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), Douye Diri (Bayelsa), and Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), who doubles as Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum.

Other notable attendees include Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, PDP BoT stalwart Ben Obi, retired Naval Chief Olabode George, former Minister of Information Jerry Gana, ex-Niger State Governor Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, former Ministers’ Forum Chair Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, and ex-Minister of Women Affairs Josephine Anenih.

The outcome of the meeting is expected to shape the PDP’s immediate political future and determine the party’s ability to navigate the mounting pressures threatening its cohesion.
