PDP BoT to members: ‘Atiku, Wike’ll reconcile, don’t create bad blood’

Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, on Thursday, cautioned members to remain calm and stop causing confusion in the party.

Chairman of PDP BoT, Walid Jibrin, issued the warning in a statement on Thursday.

Jibrin stressed that the PDP leadership is working on the resolution of the rift between the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike.

The BoT Chairman’s statement read, “I wish to call on all members of PDP and all Nigerians to remain calm and never create bad blood and confusion in the state of our party noting that all efforts are on the ground for reconciliation between [Nyesom] Wike, the party and the presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

“What is happening now should never be categorised as a problem but as a misunderstanding within the party. In this period leading to the 2023 elections, we should concentrate on how to win all positions to be contested and seriously adhere to the provision of the party constitution.

“My strong advice is for us to give strong support to the present reconciliation committee set up to resolve all issues. Thereafter, the BoT, the highest advisory organ of the party, will give more encouragement leading to greater success for the PDP.”

PDP has been embroiled in crisis since the conduct of its May presidential primary election in which Wike had contested and lost to the former vice president.

But the crisis worsened after Atiku picked Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate for the 2023 presidential election.

Following Atiku’s announcement of Okowa as his running mate, some PDP stakeholders keep kicked against what they perceived as unjust treatment meted to Wike said to have been recommended by a panel set up at Atiku.

The cracks on the walls of the party widened after Atiku explained his rationale for overlooking Wike during an interview on Arise TV.

Wike fired back few days after the interview, accusing Atiku of telling “many lies”.

Efforts by PDP stakeholders and elders to resolve the crisis have yet to yield any significant result.
