PDP Tension Rises As Wike-Backed NWC Renovates Secretariat

The Nyesom Wike-backed National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has begun renovation works at Wadata Plaza, the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, following its unsealing by the police amid a leadership dispute.

A News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondent, who visited the Zone 5 headquarters on Monday, April 13, 2026, observed ongoing renovation at the complex as preparations continued ahead of staff resumption.

Although barricades earlier mounted around the building had been removed, police operatives and patrol vehicles remained on site, maintaining a visible security presence.

A party source told NAN that renovation began on Sunday, April 12, 2026, shortly after the secretariat was reopened.

The source said the work includes repainting offices, replacing air conditioners, changing locks and keys, and reallocating office spaces to officials aligned with the new NWC leadership.

“The staff members are yet to resume, but renovation started since yesterday,” the source said.

The source added that members aligned with the Tanimu Turaki-led faction may face restricted access as control of the secretariat remains disputed.

As of Monday, no administrative staff had resumed at the PDP national headquarters.

The development follows the reopening of the PDP secretariat and its campaign office, Legacy House in Maitama, Abuja, on Saturday, April 11, 2026, by the faction led by Abdulrahman Mohammed.

In a statement, the faction said the move complied with court orders allegedly authorizing the reopening of the facilities and confirmed they had been handed to its NWC, with Senator Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary.

The faction commended the police for enforcing what it called lawful directives, while warning against disruption at the secretariat.

However, the Tanimu Turaki-led faction rejected the move, calling it unlawful and in breach of ongoing court proceedings.

Its spokesman, Ini Ememobong, said the order had been appealed and warned it could affect the appellate process.

The development underscores the PDP leadership crisis, with the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, linked to the faction in control of the secretariat.
