Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has called on eligible Nigerians to participate in the ongoing voter registration exercise, describing it as the foundation for building a better nation.
Obi made the appeal in a post shared on his Facebook page on Thursday, where he encouraged citizens, particularly young people and women, to take advantage of the registration process.
According to the former Anambra State governor, he made an unplanned stop at Waru Wazobia in Abuja while passing through the area and used the opportunity to interact with residents.
During the visit, he urged those present to register to vote, stressing that the power to transform Nigeria begins long before election day.
“The power to change Nigeria does not begin on Election Day; it begins with voter registration. Registering to vote is not just a civic responsibility; it is an investment in the future we all desire,” Obi said.

He also appealed to Nigerians who already possess Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to encourage their family members, friends, neighbours and colleagues who are yet to register to do so without delay.
Obi maintained that meaningful national transformation requires active participation from citizens, rather than hope alone.
“A New Nigeria will not happen through wishful thinking. It will be built by citizens who participate, who believe, and who act. Let us continue to choose hope over despair, participation over apathy, and nation-building over division,” he added.
The former presidential candidate concluded his message with his familiar campaign slogan: “A New Nigeria is POssible.”
