The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 election, Peter Obi, has paid glowing tribute to the founder and General Superintendent of Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William Kumuyi, as the renowned cleric marks his 85th birthday.
In a statement shared on his official X account late Saturday, Obi described Pastor Kumuyi as a global symbol of spiritual leadership whose life of service, discipline, and unwavering commitment to the Christian faith has inspired millions around the world.
The former Anambra State governor praised the cleric’s decades-long ministry, noting that his teachings and personal example have transformed countless lives across generations and nations.
“On behalf of my family, I join millions of believers and well-wishers across the world in celebrating your 85th birthday, Papa Kumuyi,” Obi wrote.
“For decades, you have exemplified integrity, humility, discipline, and unwavering commitment to the Gospel. Through your teachings, leadership, and personal example, you have inspired and transformed countless lives across generations and nations.”
Obi prayed for continued strength, wisdom, and good health for the revered preacher as he continues his spiritual mission.

Pastor Kumuyi, one of Nigeria’s most respected Christian leaders, founded the Deeper Christian Life Ministry in 1973. Over the decades, the ministry has grown into a global evangelical movement with branches in numerous countries.
President Bola Tinubu also joined other prominent Nigerians in celebrating the cleric, describing him as a remarkable man of God whose steadfast faith and dedication have shaped one of Nigeria’s most influential Christian ministries for more than five decades.
