Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has expressed deep sorrow over the escalating violence in Nigeria, particularly the recent ambush that claimed the lives of Supersport TV crew members and a policeman along the Ihiala-Orlu Road in Anambra State.

In a post on his X handle, Obi condemned the attack, in which the crew members were killed while traveling to cover the Super Eagles’ Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Libya.

“In particular, I condemn, in totality, the unfortunate killing of some crew members of Supersports TV, who were attacked in a tragic ambush along the Ihiala-Orlu Road, Anambra State, a few days ago,” Obi wrote.

“These media practitioners were on their way to Uyo to perform official duty for their medium and, indeed, the nation when the tragic incident happened, resulting in their death and the kidnap of others.”

Obi also pointed to the broader issue of worsening insecurity across the country, noting that non-state actors continue to wreak havoc, inflicting pain and suffering on families whose loved ones are either kidnapped or killed in brutal circumstances.

“The situation has continued unabated and is getting worse by the day. Non-state actors have continued to inflict pain and sorrow on families whose loved ones are often kidnapped and sometimes killed in gruesome manners,” he stated.

The former governor of Anambra State further highlighted another recent attack in Benue State, where several people were killed and others injured in a terror incident in Agatu Local Government Area.
